The Future Of The Loft Youth Arts & Cultural Centre

We have been getting lots of inquiries about council's plans to look at cutting the Loft Youth Arts & Cultural Centre service. At last Tuesdays Council meeting it was decided to keep the Loft service cut as an option in the draft budget plan that will go out for public exhibition & comment next week to allow ratepayers , community members , organisations & young people to give feedback on the proposed budget.

Below is a copy of the council resolution relating to the draft budget & a weblink.

1 Council endorses the draft 2013-2017 Delivery Plan including the 2013/2014 Operational Plan and Fees and Charges Register and places these documents on public exhibition for 28 days prior to final consideration by Council.

2 In accordance with Section 11 of the Budget Principles, the General Manager will present to Councillors, at a workshop, options for further budgetary savings. These options should detail ways to alleviate the need for rate increases. This workshop must be held before a final decision is made by Council to apply for a special rate variation.

3 Closure of The Loft be deferred to no later than 30 December 2013 to enable the General Manager to review options for the transfer of services performed by The Loft and report to Council.

We are looking for artists, singers, dancers, writers, bands, designers, actors, activists
and dreamers, who live in the Hunter region.

The Dave Arkless Memorial Artistic Encouragement Fund is offering
small grants and mentoring through The Loft Youth Arts and Cultural Centre.

Loft Gigs Program 2013

The Loft music events team is cooking up a heap of events for 2013 including:

Force Fed - Music Media Exhibition featuring local music photographers , graphic designers and videographers in August 2013
Emerging artist showcase events from July to October
Pop-up Outdoor music & art events
End of year local showcase event in December 2013
A massive array of touring & local acts will be flowing through the venue this year presented by a variety of promoters & touring companies.

The Events team meets every Wednesday at the Loft from 4pm to 5:30pm and is a great way to get involved in the Loft's music and events programming.
